Infections caused byKlebsiella pneumoniaeandAcinetobacter baumannii, which are commonly caused by susceptible bacteria. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It may also target anaerobic bacteria, making it easier to treat infections. However, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting ciprofloxacin therapy.
Ciprofloxacin should be taken orally, with or without food, approximately 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. The duration of ciprofloxacin therapy depends on the infection being treated and the patient’s age and weight. Adults and children 12 years and older have an average duration of treatment of 6 to 12 hours, with a maximum of 12 hours between doses. For severe infections, an extended course of antibiotics is recommended. The dosage for adults is typically based on the severity of the infection and the patient’s weight. Severe allergic reactions can occur with the use of ciprofloxacin. If you experience signs or symptoms suggestive of a severe allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or throat, seek medical attention immediately. If severe allergic reactions occur, such as difficulty breathing, chest tightness, or signs of anaphylaxis, immediately seek medical help.
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones may require careful monitoring and adjustments to their dosage. Ciprofloxacin may interact with other medications or substances that affect liver enzymes, leading to decreased clearance. Therefore, you should inform your doctor about all of your current medications and supplements before starting ciprofloxacin therapy. Your doctor will determine if ciprofloxacin should be taken with or without food, as well as any other medications you may be taking.
